WHS & MARSHALL Soccer End in Tie

A late goal by both teams were the highlight as top public school programs from border states ended in a 1-1 tie on Thursday night at the Martin Soccer Complex.  Marshall County (KY) Lady Marshals are one of the top 30 teams in the Bluegrass State, where Westview is ranked third in Class A in Tennessee.
Marshall County (10-5-2) and Westview (6-4-1) played a scoreless first half in the regular season finale for the home team. Despite the lopsided possession advantage by Marshall County in the first forty minutes, Westview forced the Lady Marshals into off-balanced shots, with only four of their nine attempts being on target.  Conversely, the home team mustered just one shot on frame.
The second half was more of the same for the first 26 minutes, before Westview’s struggles with ball security led to the first goal of the night by Marshall County in the 64th minute.  The score served as a wake-up call to the defending state champions, and a sense of urgency kicked in.  The Lady Chargers put several balls on frame before Carson Gibson made a beautiful cross from the right to Sophie Bolin, who crashed from the backside, nudging the ball into the net to even the score. With the score tied and seven minutes remaining, both squads attempted to make several runs in a last ditch effort to score. Westview was able to make a final push in the last :30, but failed to make a shot.
With the tie, the Lady Chargers run their unbeaten streak to five matches.
Before the match, six seniors were honored for their time on the pitch in the blue and gold.  Cambry Hatler, Ashlee Brent, Carson Gibson, Crislyn Warren, Cami Carlson, and Alyssa Williams (Left to Right) are part of a run for Westview that has filled the record book and trophy case at Westview.  The class of 2027 has finished in the top four, state runner-up, and state champions in their three seasons so far.
Next up will be the District 12A and Region 6A tournament.  The District Championship will be held in Martin.  Time and opponent to be announced.
