Martin power outage caused by struck electric pole, driver facing charges

A Martin man is facing charges after the vehicle he was driving struck an electric pole Monday night causing a power outage in a portion of the city.

Martin Assistant Police Chief Phillip Fuqua says 44-year-old David Smith was charged with Driving on a Revoked License and Compliance with Financial Responsibility after his vehicle hit an electric pole on University Street.

Smith’s license was revoked in 2014 in Obion County for DUI and Failure to Satisfy Fines.

The accident happened around 8:35 Monday night, with a portion of the city without power for about 90 minutes while crews made repairs to the electric pole.

Smith was booked at the Martin Police Department.
