OVC announces new weekend series format for 2021 baseball season

The OVC is altering its 2021 baseball schedule as each three-game weekend series will now include one doubleheader and one single game over a two-day period.

The adjustment eliminates one day of a normal weekend series, limiting travel while still giving teams the chance to complete as many games as possible. Each OVC school coordinated with its opponents to set which day the doubleheader will take place.

UT Martin’s conference season begins at home against Belmont on Friday, March 12 with a doubleheader following on Saturday, March 13. The Skyhawks will also host Morehead State on March 26-27 (doubleheader on Friday), Austin Peay on April 16-17 (doubleheader on Saturday), Jacksonville State on April 30-May 1 (doubleheader on Saturday) and Tennessee Tech on May 14-15 (doubleheader on Saturday).

UTM’s OVC road series will take place at Eastern Kentucky (March 19-20, doubleheader on Saturday), at SIUE (April 9-10, doubleheader on Saturday), at Eastern Illinois (April 23-24, doubleheader on Saturday), at Murray State (May 7-8, doubleheader on Saturday) and at Southeast Missouri (May 20-21, doubleheader on Friday).

The 2021 OVC Tournament is scheduled for May 27-29 at a yet-to-be-determined location.

The Skyhawks’ full 2021 schedule is still being finalized although several non-conference opponents have been made official.

UT Martin will play weekend series at Samford (Feb. 19-21), at Arkansas State (Feb. 26-28), at Southern Illinois (March 5-7) and at Nicholls (April 1-3). Confirmed midweek road opponents include Alabama (Feb. 24), a non-conference tilt against Belmont (March 30), Vanderbilt (April 6), Arkansas-Pine Bluff (April 27), Lipscomb (May 4), Mississippi State (May 11) and Ole Miss (May 18). The Skyhawks will also host Southeast Missouri in a non-conference game on April 13.
