Union City Middle School Basketball Playing for Championships Tonight

Both Union City Middle School teams will play in the championship games of the Class-A Blue Suede Invitational tonight at South Gibson County High School.

School Communications Director Mike Hutchens said the (8-9) Tornado girls rallied to beat Trinity Christian Academy 38-35 in their semi-final matchup on Saturday, while the (11-7) Union City boys raced past St. Mary’s 51-27 to earn their berth in the finals.

McKenzie will oppose Union City tonight at 6:00 in the girls’ championship, with the boys’ title game to pit the Twisters against Jackson Christian School at 7:30 p.m.

The contests will end the season for Union City.

In the girls game, Sophie Palmer led a balanced scoring attack with eight points, while Addy Launer and Alli McMillan scored seven points each. McKinley Dean and Sadler accounted for six points.

Will Kail buried four 3-pointers on his way to a team-best 14 points for the boys team, while Kylan Fuller, Kobe Maddox, and Hollister Johnson all finished with six points.
