The University of Tennessee has hired Kim Caldwell as the new head coach of the Lady Vols basketball program.

Athletic Director Danny White said Caldwell is the ideal person to restore the women’s basketball back to national prominence.

Caldwell was named the NCAA Division 1 Rookie Coach of the Year, and now becomes the fourth head coach of the Lady Vols in the NCAA era.

This past season, she guided Marshall to a (26-7) overall record and (17-1) conference record, with their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1997.

In eight seasons as a head coach, Caldwell has a career record of 217 wins and 31 losses.

She will be officially introduced in Knoxville on Tuesday.
