City of Martin Selects New Police Chief

The Martin City Board unanimously named Assistant Police Chief Phillip Fuqua as their new Chief.  The 54 year law officer and graduate of the FBI Academy will succeed Chief Don Teal who is retiring in three weeks.

Martin Mayor Randy Brundige made the announcement

After the announcement Captain Eric Reid, who was also a candidate, and Fuqua shook hands and embraced one another following the announcement.

Fuqua has been with the Martin Police Department for 23 years and said he hopes to continue Chief Teal’s legacy and continue to move forward

Fuqua went on to say that Captain Reed is a close friend and they have worked together for many years.

Chief  Don Teal said it was time for him to  step aside  and allow the Police Department continue to grow..

Chief Teal said he has spent hundreds of hours working in the department and that the new police department will be his legacy.

Chief Teal will be recognized Thursday from 12 til 2 with a reception. Chief Phillip Fuqua will take over July 6th.
