The Weakley County Sheriff’s Department will be installing an area to keep dogs at the Dresden Animal Shelter.
Sheriff Terry McDade announced his plan on Thursday to the finance, ways, and means committee.
A concrete pad along with cages will be installed for $18,000. The money will be made available from other parts of the department’s budget.
Sheriff McDade says that it’s becoming more common for deputies to be called to pick up stray dogs and that they have nowhere to keep them. The shelter will only be for the use of the Sheriff’s Department.
The Finance, Ways, and Means Committee and the Public Safety Committee approved the project. It will go to the full county commission next.
