Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has signed the Farmland Preservation Act.

The landmark legislation establishes a permanent conservation easement, and creates a grant fund to support farmers who voluntarily choose to protect their land.

The signing by the Governor ensures farms can be preserved for future generations.

Tennessee Agriculture Commissioner Charlie Hatcher said the state is losing productive farm and forest land at an alarming rate.

The Commissioner said the program provides options to preserving farm land for generations to come.

The bill was sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Jack Johnson and House Majority Leader William Lamberth, and received overwhelming bi-partisan support in the Legislature.
