Matt Carpenter Announces Retirement from Baseball

Longtime St. Louis Cardinals baseball player Matt Carpenter has announced his decision to retire.

The 39 year old Carpenter played 14 Major League seasons, with 12 of those being with the Cardinals.

Carpenter was drafted by St. Louis in the 13th round in 2009 out of Texas Christian University.

As a Cardinal, he was in the post season seven times, was a three time National League All-Star and won a Silver Slugger Award.

On July 20th of 2018, Carpenter hit three home runs and two doubles at Wrigley Field, making him the second player in Major League Baseball history to accomplish the feat.

He finishes his career with over 1,200 hits, 179 home runs and 659 RBI’s.
