The Weakley County Commission has been busy trying to organize the county budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year.
County Mayor Dale Hutcherson gave Thunderbolt News an update on the current state of the budget.
Mayor Hutcherson was asked if Weakley County residents can expect to see an increase in property taxes.
Mr. Hutcherson says he does not know how much the increase would be at this time or what it looks like long term, but he is not in favor of a tax increase as a first resort to meet the needs of the county budget.
The decision to raise taxes is solely the responsibility of the county commission, the mayor has no say in that determination.
