TDOT Commissioner Butch Eley has announced he will be leaving the Department of Transportation after seven years of leadership.

WBBJ reports the announcement of a successor will be made at a later date.

Governor Bill Lee said that Eley was one of his most trusted advisors. He said Commissioner Eley prepared Tennessee’s infrastructure for generations to come.

Commissioner Eley described his decision as a deliberate and thoughtful transition, not retirement. He said it was the right time to step away and spend more time with family.

Butch Eley will step down from his role in the third quarter of 2025
