Obion County Mayor Explains Funding of County School System to Budget Committee

Obion County Mayor Steve Carr says the county government has maintained adequate funding to the county school system.

During his nearly 17-minute address to the Budget Committee last week, Mayor Carr said County Commissioners have exceeded their maintenance of effort for the schools.(AUDIO)

 

Mayor Carr explained the county’s continued effort even with a decline in students.(AUDIO)

 

The Mayor also said the school system received  bonus money from sales tax revenue.(AUDIO)

 

Mayor Carr then highlighted additional county government money paid on school upgrades for the system.(AUDIO)

 

Over the years, the Mayor said the county has stayed in line with providing financial support to the operations of the school system.(AUDIO)

 

The Budget Committee recently voted to fund the school system with the same amount as last year.

Due to the decision, the school board voted to close Black Oak school as of June 30th, and to create an Obion County Middle School at Ridgemont School in the year 2026-27.
