The Weakley County Finance, Ways, and Means Committee met on Monday to vote on a proposed tax increase for the county.

A new proposal was given that would raise property taxes by 17.5 cents and take 24.19 cents out of the County’s debt service fund, while eliminating any increase on wheel tax.

Commissioner David Bell warned the committee that this new increase may not be a long term solution.

The committee voted to move forward with this proposal and it go to the full county commission during their next meeting on June 30th.

If approved, residents can expect the tax rate to increase to $1.52 on every $100 of assessed property value.
