E J Wood Is Named Asst. Director of TSSAA

Green Hills Athletic Director EJ Wood was unanimously approved Tuesday as the newest assistant executive director for the TSSAA.

Mr. Wood who grew up in Fulton will replace Gene Menees, who worked in the same role for the TSSAA for 34 years before announcing his retirement in April.

He is the son for Coach Gwin and Martha Kaye Wood and Joanie Caveness and is a 2000  graduate of Fulton City High School

Mr. Wood’s duties include assigning officials for state tournaments, overseeing camps for officials, conducting state rules meetings and organizing and directing state championship events in both sports.

He was Green Hill’s Teacher of the Year in 2022 and the A.F. Bridges Award winner for District 4 Athletic Director of the Year,

Wood began his education career in Memphis before moving to Wilson County.

He worked at Watertown High and the Wilson County district office before Green Hills opened in 2021.

Wood was selected as one of six finalists from the initial group of applicants. He was then recommended before the Board of Control.

Mr. Wood will join Joe Blair, Emily Crowell, Matthew Gillespie and Richard McWhirter as assistant executive directors.
