An explosion at a church in Lone Oak injured two people on Monday.
The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office responded to a construction site at the church on Monday afternoon following 911 calls.
Sheriff’s reports said life saving treatment was administered to two males, who were later transported to out of state hospitals for treatment.
An initial investigation revealed the explosion was not workplace related.
With the assistance of Kentucky State Police, the FBI and Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, it was revealed the explosion was not intentional and was caused by fireworks used in a way they were not designed.
Investigators believe a worker made a “sparkler bomb” that was cut by another co-worker causing the explosion.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
