The National Weather Service in Paducah is reporting the second most tornadoes in history for their coverage area.
So far this year, in the 58 county coverage area of Kentucky, Missouri, Illinois and Indiana, 59 tornadoes have been confirmed.
This number ties the tornadoes recorded in a single year in 2024, and trails the all-time largest number of 79 in 2011.
For the year, Weather Service reports show 24 tornadoes in Missouri, 16 in Illinois, 12 in Kentucky and nine in Indiana.
The strength of tornadoes has also drawn concern to Weather Service officials.
Over the past 13 months, the coverage region confirmed 13 EF-3 plus tornadoes, far exceeding four EF-3 plus tornadoes that were recorded from 2014-to-2023.
The stronger and longer prevailing tornadoes have also led to a record track of 567 miles, shattering the previous record in 2011 of 450 miles.
