Funeral services were held today for a former Union City resident, who was a legend in the world of Tennessee Walking Horses.
Services for 78 year old James Dale “Jimmy” McConnell, of Shelbyville, were held at Fair Haven Baptist Church.
A private graveside service will be held at Eastview Cemetery in Union City.
McConnell was born in Union City in 1947, and captured his first blue ribbon at the World Walking Horse Championships at the age of 23.
Over the next 55 years as a trainer, coach and master showman, over 200 world and world grand championships would be won under his director.
At the 2023 Walking Horse Celebration, McConnell became the first trainer to ever win the two-Year-Old Mare World Grand Championship and Two Year Old World Grand Championship.
