Lake County Falcons

Head Coach: Hunter Short (2nd Season)

Last Season: 5-6 (4-3 Region)

Classification: 7A

Football programs aren’t built in a day, and second-year head coach Hunter Short is trusting the process as he builds Lake County back to its previous heights as a respected single-A program in West Tennessee.

Short is no stranger to success in Tiptonville, having served as an assistant coach on 2019’s undefeated state championship team before working as an assistant in Shelbyville with former Falcon coach Josh Puckett. Short returned to Lake County in 2022 as the offensive coordinator under Jonathan Canada before coming back and becoming the 16th head coach in school history.

Last season, Lake County went 5-6, but Short believes a culture is being built and put in place that is pivotal to restarting the program. Since 2001, Lake County has boasted a record of 166- 110.

Lake County High School is a different animal compared to other local high schools, but Tiptonville is a community filled with individuals who love their children and want them to succeed, especially on the gridiron. With that in mind, Short has one goal for the season.

Lake County will rely on various players this season, with Cade Lanier serving as the quarterback. Other players Short hopes to rely on include Ka’devon Gross, who rushed for 1,000 yards last season at running back, Neil Leinweber to bolster his offensive and defensive fronts and Jataveion Ricks as a wide-out and defensive back.

The Falcons’ first game of the season will be August 22nd at Obion County Central with the annual Battle for Reelfoot trophy on the line.
