After several months of renovations, Wal-Mart will complete their “rebranding” of its Martin store with an 8am ribbon cutting ceremony next Friday August 15.

Mayor Randy Brundige said the Martin Wal-Mart has been “a strong retailer for Martin and Weakley County and has been Martin’s largest sales tax collector for many years.”

Manager Scotty Simmons, who has been the manager for the past 19 years,  said the Martin store is now in its third location.  The first was on North Lindell Street, then moved to the University Plaza.  That store out grew that location where Rural King is now located.

Wal-Mart is now on University Street to a newer large building in 2006.

The Martin Wal-Mart averages between 275 to 300 employees.     Sixty five percent of their associates are made of full time and 35%  part time.

Mr. Simmons said the longest employee is Les Martin who has been with the store for 48 years.

Martin oversees the sporting goods department. Weakley County ribbon cutting event will take place next Friday August 15  at 8am.
