Several Tennessee distressed counties have received new backpacks this school year following First Lady Maria Lee announced her initiative, Tennessees serves to help.
In its fifth year, Tennessee Serves has provided more than 32 thousand new backpacks to students across Tennessee.
Among the economically distressed counties are Perry, Hardeman, Haywood and Lake Counties in West Tennessee.
This year, 12,711 students received a backpack from the First Lady’s initiative. Other distressed counties receiving backpacks include Bledsoe, Cocke– Grundy– Hancock, – Oneida and Scott Counties
