The National Weather Service says today could be the hottest day of the Summer season.

The Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning until 10:00 tonight.

Actual daytime temperatures in many areas could reach 100 this afternoon, with heat index values near 112.

The extreme heat enhances the possibility of heat related illnesses, if exposed to the outdoor conditions for an extended period of time.

Anyone working, or outdoors for lengths of time today, are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids, especially water.

Breaks in the air conditioning or shade are recommended.

Homeowners are also urged to have plenty of fresh water and shade for their outdoor pets, who can also be affected by the extreme temperatures.
