Kentucky officials are taking steps to ban the sale of “designer Xanax” by immediately classifying it as a Schedule 1 controlled substance in Kentucky, Monday.
Governor Andy Beshear responded to a request to combat the highly potent synthetic drug, urging the DEA to take emergency action banning the unregulated drug.
The drug is being sold on the streets as well as online, being passed off as prescription pills, commonly used to treat conditions like anxiety, insomnia, and seizures.
Last year it was detected in 50 overdose deaths in Kentucky.
