Memphis Woman Sentenced to Federal Prison for Scheme to Defraud Federal COVID-19 Relief Program

A Memphis woman was sentenced to federal prison last week for her scheme to defraud the Department of Health and Human Services “Emergency Cash Assistance” program.

According to the courts, 32 year old Rochelle Turner created and submitted fraudulent unemployment letters indicating that she and others had lost their jobs due to the pandemic.

Turner attempted to defraud the program out of over $15,000 and caused an actual loss of $6,000 to the program.

She plead guilty to one-count information charging her with making false claims in May. On August 14th, she was sentenced to five months in federal prison, five months of home detention and three years of supervised release with an order to pay restitution.
