Westview Soccer

Westview Soccer had a good showing at the 2025 Smoky Mountain Cup playing top notch competition in three separate matches.  Coach Spendlove said, “I’m proud of how Westview showed up for this tournament.  Playing in the highest division is a challenge, but the girls gladly accepted.  We faced three, high quality teams, and it revealed our weaknesses.  Now it’s time to get back to work.”
After knocking off Silverdale Baptist Academy 4-0 Friday night, Westview faced the 2023 and the 2024 Class AA state champions on Saturday.
Game 1
Station Camp (Gallatin, TN)- 2
Westview- 1
The Lady Chargers faced the 2023 Class AA Station Camp Bison in the early match Saturday morning.  Despite an offensive onslaught by the Bison, Westview held strong.  After giving up a goal 10 minutes in, The Lady Chargers locked down on defense with stellar pay by the backline and in goal.
The score at the half was 1-0.
Senior Hayden Markowski broke loose in the 64th minute and scored from 18 yards out to knot the score at one.  However, three minutes later, a miscommunication on defense led to a second Station Camp goal to break the tie.  Neither team was able to muster another goal as Westview fell by a final score of 2-1.
Franklin County- 1
Westview- 0
After a three hour break, Westview hit the pitch again to face the 2024 Class AA State Champion, the Franklin County Lady Rebels.  Much like the first match of the day, the defense was constantly under a barrage of shots on goal.  The midfield and backline did a good job of cutting off shooting lanes, and goal keeper Kella Simmons turned in another fine performance in frame.  The Lady Rebels fired 27 shots this afternoon, but only one found the net after inadvertent contact that allowed the ball to trickle across the line.
The score at the half was 1-0.
Westview buckled down again to keep the Lady Rebels out of the goal for the remainder of the game, but the Lady Chargers failed to fire a shot in the second half, dropping the finale 1-0.
Westview was able to utilize all players in the match and gained valuable experience for the back half of the season.
With the losses, Westview falls to 6-3 on the season.  They will return to the friendly confines of the Martin Soccer Complex on Thursday to face the Huntingdon Fillies.  It will be the first district game of the season.  First touch is 6 pm.
