The Westview Lady Chargers faced the Kirkwood Lady Cobras in the final match of the Henry County High School Patriot Invitational tournament in Paris.
After Friday night‘s 3-2 victory over the host school, the Lady Chargers faced AAA Kirkwood Saturday morning. The first score of the game came in the 33rd minute when sophomore Ashlee Brent made a shot from 21 yards out to give Westview a 1-0 lead.
The second half started quickly when Brent and classmate Cambry Hatler sliced through the Cobra defense, finding senior Hayden Markowski who gave her teammates a 2-0 lead in the first minute. The sequence appeared to be the start of a runaway victory for the blue and gold.
However, several miscues by Westview led to goals in the 54th, 55th, and 60th minutes by the Cobras to erase the lead in only six minutes. Kirkwood led 3-2 with 20 minutes remaining in the match.
Westview survived an offensive onslaught for the next 15 minutes before Cambry Hatler hit the top shelf from 15 years out to knot the score at 3-3. Neither team would score again.
The tie ended a grueling seven match stretch in 11 days for the Lady Chargers.
Westview (8-3-1) will return to the friendly confines of the Martin Soccer Complex to face district foe McKenzie, Tuesday night at 6:00 pm. With a win, the Lady Charges will secure the District 12A regular season championship and right to host the district tournament.
