
Weakley County Schools was made aware of a swatting incident outside of school hours which targeted an individual student last week.
After a thorough investigation by the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department, Sharon Police Department, Martin Police Department, and the Department of Homeland Security, law enforcement deemed the threat non-credible.
Swatting is when someone falsely reports a serious emergency to provoke a law enforcements response. Swatting is bringing about concerns nationwide.
Weakley County Schools sent out a statement encouraging parents and guardians to remain vigilant in discussing online safety with their children.
Encouraging them to speak openly about the dangers of interacting with unknown individuals online, stress the importance of not sharing personal information, and remind students to report any uncomfortable or unsafe situation to a trusted adult.
