Dresden Attorney Jeff Washburn has Announced his Retirement

Dresden attorney Jeff Washburn has announced that he has retired from the private practice of law and has taken a full-time job with the 27th Judicial District Public Defender’s office.

Washburn stated that he is working to complete work on a small number of legal matters he had in progress on September 30, the date of his retirement, and that he began work full-time with the  Public Defender’s office on October 1.  Washburn has worked part-time with the Public Defender’s office since March 1, 2007 handling assigned criminal cases in the Juvenile, General Sessions, and Circuit Courts of Obion and Weakley Counties.   He now will have an expanded role in the Public Defender’s office representing more clients in the various courts of the 27th Judicial District

Washburn is a former Alderman and Mayor of the City of Dresden having served in those two elected offices from 2012 to 2022.  In addition to working as a practicing attorney in private practice starting in 2003, Washburn served as the Editor of the Dresden Enterprise from 1974 to 2021, was the Administrator of the Weakley County Ambulance Service from 1983 to 2021, served as the County Attorney for Weakley County for eight years and as city attorney for the cities of Dresden, Greenfield, and Sharon at various times during his tenure as a private attorney.  Washburn was a charter member of the Weakley County Rescue Squad organized in 1974 and currently is a life-time member of the organization.

Washburn stated that he is honored to be able to work with District Public Defender Bill Randolph and the other fine attorneys affiliated with the 27th Judicial District Public Defenders office and appreciates the opportunity to provide legal representation in this capacity during the remainder of his working career.

He is married to Jennifer Brewer Butts of Dresden and they are the parents of five children, twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
