Thousands of Tennesseans are bracing for a serious impact, the loss of SNAP benefits that help them afford groceries each month.

The Tennessee Department of Human Services report if lawmakers fail to reach a deal the   Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program also known as SNAP, benefits could stop as early as November first.

A USDA report shows nearly 700,000 Tennesseans or 9.8% of the state’s population relies on monthly SNAP support. Delays could push many into crisis.

In past shutdowns, limited delays already forced parents into difficult situations skipping meals so their children can eat, or choosing between food and essential bills.
