The Westview Lady Chargers will make a return trip to the TSSAA Class A state tournament in Chattanooga. Westview punched its ticket to the fall event on the strength of their fourth straight shutout over the Forrest Lady Rockets Saturday afternoon in Martin.
The Lady Chargers held Forrest to eight shots on the day, shutting down the state’s top goal scorer, Baeliy Stalnecker, without a single goal.
Conversely, Westview continued their offensive onslaught and stingy defense. Cambry Hatler scored in the 3rd minute, and Maddie Horton scored three of her four goals in the first half just one minute later. Chanler Spendlove scored two and Kaydence Papich added a solo to lead at the break, 7-0.
Horton scored her fourth in the 46th minute before Cami Carlson found Ashlee Brent ten minutes later to end the match.
Ashlee Brent led the team with four assists.
Last season, the Lady Chargers were the first public school in West Tennessee to play for a state championship, falling to Merroll Hyde 4-1 in the finals. This will be the seventh trip to the state tournament in program history.
Westview improves to 14-3-1.
