TVA is adding to its power grid by dedicating 10 new natural gas turbines in New Johnsonville yesterday. Together, they add more than 500 Megawatts to the power grid.
The new turbines, combined with 14 existing units in the Humphrey County plant, can power more than 770,000 homes.
TVA president Don Moul said the new turbines can go from cold engine to full power in five minutes, making them ideal for winter and summer demands.
The plant employs 30 day-to-day employees, but that number can grow up to 100 during outages and maintenance work.
