The City of Martin’s Director of Economic and Community Development has submitted his resignation.
Brad Thompson resigned from the position Tuesday afternoon after learning he would be dismissed.
The Martin City board had scheduled a meeting Tuesday to address Thompson, who is facing multiple charges following an investigation by the Tennessee Comptrollers Office.
Thompson, along with former Mayor Randy Brundinge and Natalie Brundige were indicted by the Weakley County grand jury on felony charges of theft of property and official misconduct.
Mayor Brundige also submitted his resignation from office.
Thompson issued a three page letter to the Board of Aldermen and citizens of Martin, highlighting his achievements for the city over a 14 year period.
In the letter, Thompson stated he conducted his work with the approval of the Mayor, Board of Aldermen and legal counsel.
Thompson said city audits also reviewed and approved payments for his work on grants as well as travel.
He stated that in his time of employment, every check was approved, written and signed by at least two authorized employees.
Thompson, along with former Mayor Brundige and Natalie Brundige all appeared in Weakley County Circuit Court this week and issued “not guilty pleas”.
Circuit Judge Jeff Parham set a court appearance for February 9th.
