The Tennessee Comptroller’s Office has determined that a former town of Gibson Mayor misappropriated $2,000 in public funds for personal gain.
Investigators found in 2021 that Jimmie Hill, who served as Mayor from 2017 to 2023, facilitated a $7,000 town check to purchase a utility truck for municipal use.
However, the vendor’s invoice showed the truck’s actual cost was $5,000. The Mayor then used the overpayment of $2,000 to purchase his personal vehicle.
Town officials told investigators they had no knowledge of the overpayment of funds going toward the personal vehicle.
Mr. Hill later reimbursed the town of Gibson for the $2,000 on November 19th of this year.
