A Union City High School volleyball player has been named one of the top players in the state.

School Communications Director Mike Hutchens said Gracie Sims has become the second Lady Tornado player ever to earn all-state honors.

Sims was named to the 15-member Class 1A Tennessee Sports Writers Association team.

The senior outside hitter set a program record with 362 kills, while helping Union City to a record 24-wins and second state tournament berth in as many seasons.

Sims came to Union City after transferring from Carlisle County her freshman year.

This past season, Sims was named the District 13A Co-Most Valuable Player and was a member of the All-Region 7A Tournament team.
