A residential fire Sunday in Graves County claimed the life of one person and seriously injured another.
Sheriff Jon Hayden said 79 year old Garvin Doran died at the scene of the fire at 1285 State Route 303, just north of the Tennessee State Line.
Doran’s 81 year old wife, Faye Doran, was transported to the Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville for treatment of injuries.
Sheriff Hayden said an investigation revealed both of the Doran’s ran outside after the home caught fire, but Garvin Doran told his wife he had to go back inside to get something.
After going back into the home, he never returned.
Reports said firefighters from Cuba and Sedalia searched for the victim for hours on Sunday, then returned Monday with Doran’s body recovered.
Sheriff Hayden said the fire and death remains under investigation by the Graves County Coroner and Sheriff’s Office.
