UTM Split with Morehead State

skyhawks-1-3

The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball team ended Morehead State’s six-game win streak with a 64-58 victory over the Eagles Saturday at the Kathleen & Tom Elam Center. Not only had Morehead State won its last six in a row, but it came to the Elam Center as the OVC’s hottest team, winning 11 of its last 12 games.

Heading into the fourth quarter with a 55-40 Skyhawk lead, Morehead State closed the gap to trail by only three with 48 seconds to play. However, a pull-up jumper from Sidni Middleton and a free throw from Cam Ward in the final 20 second of the contest was enough to put the Eagles away, after not allowing a Morehead State Field Goal for the last 3:42 of the game.

With the win, the Skyhawks moved to 13-10 overall and 9-5 in OVC play, just one game out second-place where Lindenwood, Southern Indiana and Morehead State are all currently tied.

Head Coach Kevin McMillian thought both teams played well…

In the nightcap, the University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball squad struggled offensively in a 61-55 setback to Morehead State.

The Skyhawks shot 25.8 percent (16-of-62) from the floor, including a 6-for-39 effort (15.4 percent) from three-point range. UT Martin’s trademark gritty defense kept them in the game as the Skyhawks took their biggest lead of the day (39-32) with 9:47 left to play but the Eagles responded with an 18-4 run and UT Martin could not bounce back.

Head Coach Jermery Shulman says his team felt the effects of the busy week…

Both Teams go on the road Thursday to face Lindenwood.
