The 15th annual Upper West Tennessee Polar Plunge in Union City was a record breaker.
Over 70 participants dived into the cold water at Aloha Pools and Spas this past Saturday to help raise money for Special Olympics.
Upper West Tennessee Special Olympics Director Dr. Clinton Smith said the support from the area shattered the goal set for this event.
Due to the generosity and efforts of students to business leaders, Dr. Clinton announced a total of just over $31,000 was raised.
The amount far surpassed the goal for the event of $20,000.
The Top Individual Fundraiser during the Union City plunge was Emma Blanton, who collected over $11,500.
The Top Fundraising Team was the UT Martin Health and Human Performance Department with over $2,680.
The funds will now help support the training, competition and health programs for more than 400 Special Olympics athletes across Weakley, Obion, Henry, Lake and Carroll County.
