Families who receive SNAP benefits could be eligible for replacement food if they lost it during the January 2026 winter storm.

The USDA made the announcement said rather than require SNAP households to report food losses individually; they allowed Tennessee to approve automatic mass replacements of 45% of benefits for residents who lost their food as a result of the storm.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program allows SNAP recipients in areas hit the hardest by the disaster may have a portion of their January benefits replaced.
