A bill has passed the Kentucky Senate to renew tags and titling of vehicles at the County Clerk’s Office.
First District State Senator Jason Howell, of Murray, was the sponsor of Senate Bill 110.(AUDIO)
If passed by the General Assembly, car titles will be kept in an electronic data base called AVIS, which is an automated vehicle information system.
Paper titles will still be available at a fee for the vehicle owner.
Also, notifications for renewing vehicle tags and taxes will change over to email or text messaging, instead of using traditional mail.
Senate Bill 110 passed on the Senate floor and has been forwarded to the House for consideration.
If approved, the new vehicle system for County Clerk’s will begin in 2027.
