If Tennessee drivers are caught holding their phones while driving could soon face increased penalties.
Instead of $10, it could be between $25 to $50, depending on the offense.
Republican State Senator Ferrell Haile of Gallatin is carrying the bill in the General Assembly to make fines more expensive.
Under the Hands Free Tennessee law, the first time you’re caught holding a phone, there is a $50 fine and a $10 court fee.
Senate Bill 1591 aims to change that, upping court costs to 50% of the traffic fine.
