In a 68 to 25 vote the Tennessee House of Representatives passed a bill that states same-sex marriage does not have to be recognized in Tennessee.

It also adds that officials cannot be disciplined or sanctioned for refusing to officiate marriages between people of the same sex.

During discussions, one woman was removed from the balcony of the chamber by the Highway Patrol after she began yelling and disrupting the session.

Representative Gino Bulso told the House that “this is a bill that does not change existing law. It simply clarifies existing law.”

The bill will still need to pass in the Senate to send it to the Governor. The bill has been referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
