Memphis Woman Senetenced After Defrauding Federal Programs Over $560,000

 

A Memphis woman was sentenced to federal prison Friday, for defrauding state and federal programs out of over $560,000 intended to help people during the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

The final of three women, 38 year old Karen Guevara, was sentenced to one year and a day of incarceration, followed by three years of supervised release for conspiracy to commit wire fraud and making false claims against the U.S government.

 

She and her co-conspirators defrauded the government out of over $560,000 by filing fraudulent applications for unemployment benefits in over 20 different states during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

Guevara was convicted and sentenced along with 37 year old Deashley Tabor, who was sentenced to 41 months and 32 year old Rochelle Turner who was sentenced to five months in prison to be followed by five months of home detention.
