A bill moving in the Tennessee Legislature could force one of the largest health care companies in the country to restructure how it does business in Tennessee.

Channel 4 reports Senate Bill 20-40 would stop pharmacy benefit managers, known as P B Ms, from owning or controlling a Tennessee pharmacy license.

That means a company could operate as a PBM or own retail pharmacies in Tennessee, but not both because it is a conflict interest.

A spokesman for CVS said the legislation would force the closure of 134 pharmacies in Tennessee, affecting more than 1.5 million patients and over 2,000 employees.
