Tennessee Department of Correction Investigating Death of On-Duty Officer

The Tennessee Department of Correction continues to investigate the murder of a correctional officer at the Morgan County Correctional Complex in Wartburg.
The officer killed in the line of duty was 35 year old Officer Dustin Pedigo, who had served with the Department of Correction since April of 2025.
The individual responsible for the stabbing death on Tuesday was identified as inmate Reginald Steed, who was serving a 27 year sentence for aggravated assault, especially aggravated robbery and attempted voluntary manslaughter.
Department of Correction Commissioner Frank Strada said the death was a heartbreaking moment for the department and entire TDOC family.
The Morgan County Correctional Complex is a maximum security prison containing 2,100 inmates and 800 staff members.
An investigation into the death of Officer Pedigo is ongoing by the TDOC’s Office of Investigations & Conduct .
