A mother and her small child were killed in a Graves County fire early Monday morning.
Sheriff Jon Hayden said a 911 call was received just after 1:00 to a residence on fire at 5363 Central Road.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene to find three escapees from the burning home, but two people still in an upstairs area.
Sheriff Hayden said deputies attempted to gain entry with pry bars and a sledgehammer, but the structure became engulfed in flames.
After several hours, the fire departments of Sedalia, Cuba, Wingo and Mayfield-Graves Fire and Rescue Squad were able to extinguish the blaze.
The bodies of 19 year old Arianna Teems and her seventh month old son were discovered in the rubble.
The Kentucky State Fire Marshal’s Office was called to the scene, along with the Graves County Coroner’s Office.
