Martin Police Department Issues Scam Alert

scam-3

The Martin Police Department is making residents aware of a scam.

Police Chief Phillip Fuqua said the department has received several reports from citizens regarding suspicious emails claiming they have delinquent traffic citations.

These emails often reference Tennessee law and threaten penalties unless payment is made through a website associated with the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security.

Chief Fuqua said this is a scam/phishing attempt, and urges anyone who receives such a notice to:

Not open the email

Not respond nor send any money or personal information

Anyone with an outstanding traffic citation in the State of Tennessee will be notified by official letter and not by email.
