Union City’s Gracie Sims will continue her education and volleyball career at Freed-Hardeman University.

School Communications Director Mike Hutchens said Sims recently signed to play at the Henderson university, after being only the second Union City volleyball player in school history to earn All-State honors.

The six-foot senior helped the Lady Tornadoes to back-to-back appearances in the Class-A state tournament the past two seasons.

Sims also set a program record with 362 kills as a senior, when Union City won a best-ever 24 matches.

Sims said there was a time when she did not know if she would be recruited, but credited assistant athletic director John Graham for sending lots of letters which drew attention.

In making her college selection, the Union City senior said she liked the Christian-based environment of everything on campus at Freed-Hardeman.
