
The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team fell 17-6 during its midweek contest against 15th ranked Ole Miss at Swayze Field.
JT Popick’s three hits led UT Martin (25-27) while TJ Grines (double, RBI, stolen base) and Andrew Davis (run scored) had two hits. Tommy Koch drove in a team-high two RBIs and extended his on-base streak to 15 games (team best).
Dean McCalla (1-1) threw 1.1 innings with two strikeouts in the start while Gehrig Wright, Silas Jones (two innings), Aidan Karns (one inning) and Drake Bayles (one inning, no hits, no runs, two strikeouts) saw action against the Rebels (35-18).
The Skyhawks got on the board in the top of the third after Colten Payton drove in Garner Anderson. Later in the top of the fifth, the double steal was on, and a high throw to third base helped Anderson score.
UT Martin had its biggest inning of the night during the sixth with four runs coming home. Koch smacked a single into left center field to drive in two, then Grines drilled a 2-2 count to first base to plate Cameron Greene. Bo Strickland rounded out the scoring by drawing a walk on four pitches.
Ole Miss closed things out in the seventh to notch the victory.
The Skyhawks will now shift their focus to SIUE for the final Ohio Valley Conference series of the season. Game 1 from Edwardsville, Ill. is set for Thursday, May 14 at 6 p.m.
