The family of a medical student in Memphis has filed a $10-million dollar wrongful death lawsuit against her ex-boyfriend and his mother.
On October 19th, Ellie Young was shot to death following a breast cancer walk at Shelby Farms Park in Memphis.
Young’s ex-boyfriend, 27 year old Jackson Hopper, was arrested after a multi-county pursuit and is now charged with first degree murder.
WREG reported the lawsuit was filed against Hopper and his mother Martha, claiming the mother was aware of her son’s “prior violent tendencies” and lies to the Young family when they expressed concerns that Hopper was “posing a dangerous threat to Ellie”.
The lawsuit stated Martha Hopper also knew her son “engaged in similar dangerous conduct with other girlfriends” and failed to inform the Young family.
The lawsuit stated the victim’s family is also concerned that Hopper may try to use recently inherited funds to make bond and avoid prosecution.
The family claims he inherited a significant amount of property in Lake County, and “possibly other counties” following the death of his grandfather.
He allegedly sold part or all of his interest in the property for over $3 million dollars this year.
In the lawsuit, the Young family requests the judge to keep Hopper from spending any of the inheritance money other than ordinary living expenses.
Jackson Hopper is currently being held without bond on the murder charge.
