Today is the first day of summer.
Summer Solstice will officially occur at 10:42 tonight.
The summer season annually begins when the Earth arrives at the point in its orbit, where the North Pole is at its maximum tilt toward the Sun.
When this occurs, it results in the longest day and shortest night of the calendar year.
The summer season will now be in place until September 22nd, when fall officially arrives.
