Westivew Girls Soccer Now 4-0

For the second year in a row, the Westview Lady Chargers (3-0) have taken the season series over Northwest Tennessee powerhouse, the Dyersburg Lady Trojans.
Scoring was difficult for both squads in the first half Tuesday evening.  Dyersburg’s offensive attack was constantly turned away, unable to muster a single shot.  The Lady Chargers fired 10, most of which were on target but failed to pass between the pipes.
There was no score at the half.
Twelve minutes into the second half, senior forward Maddie Horton broke the scoreless tie with a 25 yard bomb that found the top right shelf.  Four minutes later, Horton scored again off a corner kick that landed on her right foot, which she promptly shot through traffic to extend the lead, 2-0. Classmate Hayden Markowski scored in the 68th minute, and sophomore Ashlee Brent connected on a free kick awarded to Westview when Chanler Spendlove was fouled just outside the 18 yard box to secure the 4-0 victory.
Dyersburg’s only real chance to score was midway through the second half.  In a spectacular sequence, goalkeeper Kella Simmons faced a one on one attack, cut off the angle, and forced the striker’s shot wide left.  Simmons, along with defenders Brea McGuffin, Kaydence Papich, Tess Anderson, and Aslyssa Williams, recorded a clean sheet for the second time this season in the shutout.
Dyersburg goalkeeper Grace Ann Webb turned in an outstanding performance.  The sophomore faced thirty shots, recording 11 saves in the loss.
Westview will head to Jackson Saturday morning to face Madison Academic at 10 am.
